Go for Gmail - Email Client App Reviews

Nice idea, but glitchy.

I like the idea and have been waiting a long time for a native mac app that allows for Gmail management. However, this app is glitchy and seems like it still needs a lot of work. Clicking seems to go in and out, loading stalls out regularly, and screen seems to freeze at times. Would be a fan if some of these issues would be addressed in an update. Until then, I’ll go back to the Gmail web app.

Could be a lot better

I have liked the application, but it crashes a least once a day. I like that the interface is very similar to their website. I would give it a high rating if it didn’t crash so often.

Go for Gmail

Works great. Clean. Easy to use. No problems.

This isn’t an email app

This is absurd. When I signed into this app, a bar popped up at the top of the window saying that the version of Safari was no longer supported, and I got an email from gmail saying that I had a new sign in from Safari on Mac. All this is is a wrapper app that runs Safari separately from any other instance of Safari on your computer and is dedicated to gmail. I don’t use Safari as my default browser, so if I wanted this solution, I could just use Safari exclusively for Gmail. If I wanted to use the Gmail interface, I would. In fact, I do. But I have multiple gmail accounts and I wanted a better way to manage them, and this doesn’t help me at all. This wasn’t worth the price I paid for it, and it was free.

Black screen

After 2 week - black screen instead of application

Full Screen Bug

Just downloaded. I opened an email and downloaded an attachment straight to my dropbox. It did that successfully but now the app is blacked out. Luckily i can swipe back and forth between the app and my desktop screen but my mac isn’t perceiving the app as open or in use so I can neither close nor force quit the app.

Freezing

I like the convience of the app but it tends to freeze up very easily and frequently. I don’t have this issue when I use gmail from my browser.

Cannot Paste LINKS into E-mail Body

It no longer allows me to paste URLs into the body of the e-mail. This is an inconvenient problem for an e-mail app to have!!!!! Please fix! Thx

This is pretty much just a browser window

This functions like a limited browser window. The really bad part is that it doesn’t create an icon on the task bar when in use. But hey, it’s free.

I love it!

I love this app! I always know when I have new email, it’s quick and easy to get to, and I can switch back and forth between multiple gmail accounts. Everything works great. I’m using it on OS X El Capitan and haven’t experienced any of the problems others have mentioned.

Go Go Gadget Gmail

Love the accessibilty and quickness of access!

good start

I think this is a really fast and easy way to use gmail on your Mac. I wish there was Inbox by Gmail but I’ll get used to it. It’s useful to see how many new emails i have right from my menu bar! Overall good and useful app. Definitely recommend.

perfect

never have to sign in again, just click the icon at the top of the screen

Very Glitchy

This app would be amazing if it were more reliable. It constantly freezes, which inhibits me from being able to click within the app. I am always having to reload the app just to get it working again. I see I’m not the only one dealing with this issues, and hopefully it gets fixed soon.

Forget memory leaks…this is a memory AVALANCHE

Wow. I have never encountered a mac program that should be in theory so light and simple in purpose that then went ahead to so thoroughly fail at managing what ought to be bare bones level of system resources as this tar baby of a program does. As of writing this review, Go for Gmail is consuming 6GB of RAM on my system. We used to talk back in the 00s how Firefox was a constant memory hog and it took years to fix…and that was a browser—infinitely more complex than this application--let’s be real here—calling it an application is being way too charitable. This is really an applet not an application. This little applet takes the cake and sweeps past all previous memory hogs known to man and leaves them in the dust. I’ve deleted all traces of this applet that just ends up feeds off your RAM till there is no more RAM left and you’re left with having to force quit this monster constantly. And you should delete it too. Or avoid installing it.

super easy to use

Makes gmail easy to access. enjoy using it regularly. I can open this up outside of a web browser which is nice and easy to get to.

Really Great

I don’t really use my email to communicate with others, but the few times that I have, gmail was really great with notifying me as soon as they replied back. Gmail is also really easy to use when wanting to unsubscribe from certain articles, websites, etc. I especially love how easy it is to move emails back from social, to primary, to spam, to trash, and back. The undo button is also a godsend, which is one of my favorite features of gmail. I’ve heard of people talking about the app glitching, and fortunatley I have not had that problem. I highly reccommend using the gmail app because it’s easier to use than the email app that comes with most iPhones.

RAM killer

Surely there has to be a decent, simple Gmail menubar app that doesn’t use up all of one’s RAM? Ironically I’m using another of FIPLAB’s products (Memory Clean) and on my 16GB MacBook Pro it is frequently reporting available RAM at around 2 GB, even when I only have one app open. Activity Monitor revealed that Go for Gmail was using 10GB of RAM!!! After quitting Go for Gmail I now have 11GB of available RAM. Not sure what the deal is, but I’d say avoid this app until they can figure out the serious memory leak issue.

My 2 cents worth….

I have used gmail for years. The ONLY thing I dont like about it is, when you trash a email it doesnt really go away it “archives”. Doing Apple support for a living I have seen this take up gigs and gigs of space. The average user has no clue. Its trash, we got rid of it, so should you gmail! :)

this isn’t really even an app

Basically what this is a web browser that can only access one page. There is no interface other than the one that google devs made. If you like the way this is laid out, just go to the gmial website. It is exactly the same. I guess that doesn’t make this product actively offensive. Nor is the app entirely pointless. I understand that some people might not want to use their web browser for email because they might get distracted on the way. That said, there are many far better email clients out there. The bottom line is that this app could have been made in about 10 minutes by someone without any programming experience. I think there may even be an official XCode tutorial on how to make a web browser that could be easily converted into this app. If you really like the gmail interface but don’t want to use a web browser, this might be the app for you. Otherwise, do not reward such pathetic workmanship.
